This unique natural pool in the world, which is a delight for walkers, photographers, and divers, measures twenty by fifteen meters and has been dug over the centuries by the wind, the sea, and the waves. And what is particularly pleasant when you decide to swim in this unlikely water hole, is that the water is warmer than the Aegean Sea that surrounds it!

Located on the island of Thasos, the northernmost island of Greece with beautiful beaches, hiking trails offering spectacular scenery, and picturesque mountain villages, the Giola lagoon as it is called, is a natural curiosity not to be missed during a stay in Greece on this beautiful island of Thasos.

If you decide to go there, note that it is not a beach at all, so not a single grain of sand on the horizon but only warm rock on which to lay your towel… There is no shade either, so don’t forget to bring sun cream, a hat, and a water bottle!

Giola Lagoon unique place that must be earned

If the place is quite famous because of the many photos posted on social networks, it is not easy to find! So take note of what follows. The paradise is not far…

From Thasos, the capital of the island located in the north, it takes an hour to drive to the south, where this natural wonder is hidden.

Coming from Limenaria, you should drive to the Aeria Hotel located in the village of Astris. After 100 meters, turn right at the sign “Studios Sirines” even if the road seems difficult. Drive for 2 or 3 kilometers, then find a place under the trees. There you will see a stone house with a tile roof and this is where your walk begins. Just follow the arrows for about 15 minutes before you see large rocks in which the famous Giola lagoon is hidden.

Have a good swim!
